Beware of Taxi Driver armed with a Lethal Phonecam. My Journal
A CABBY'S DIARY
Many a day, I am not making enough to cover my costs. I have had enough of it and plans to turn in (more like throwing it) my keys next Monday. Maybe, I will become a "relieved" driver, without the burden of renting a taxi every day.
ONE DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE CABBY:
May 1:
6.45 am: Starts work by driving around Yishun.
7.30 am: Drives a passenger from Yishun Street 81 to Yishun Polyclinic. Fare: $4.10.
8.20 am: Drives a passenger from Northpoint to Changi Airport Terminal 1. Fare: $15.40.
8.45 am: Joins the airport queue.
10.15 am: Drives a passenger from the airport to Hotel Negara at Orchard Road. Fare: $16.
10.45 am: Drives a passenger from Orchard Road to the American School in Woodlands. Fare: $11.
11.45 am: Drives a passenger from Woodlands Avenue 1 to Balestier Road. Fare: $10.70.
12.30 pm: Drives to Bedok to meet fellow taxi-drivers for lunch: $4.50.
1.30 pm: Drives a passenger from Bedok to Marine Parade. Fare: $5.20.
Joins taxi queue at Parkway Parade.
2 pm: Drives a passenger from Parkway Parade to Tanjong Katong. Fare: $3.60.
2.30 pm: Drives a passenger from Geylang East to Geylang Lorong 4. Fare: $3.30.
2.45 pm: Drives a passenger from Guillemard Road to Telok Ayer Street. Fare: $7.40.
Drives around Chinatown with no luck.
3.45 pm: Drives home to take a nap.
5.20 pm: Starts driving again, takes TPE to Sengkang.
5.30 pm: Drives a passenger from Sengkang to Siglap. Fare: $7.50.
Drives from Siglap to Upper East Coast to Upper Changi to Changi Airport. There is a long queue. Gives up.
6.15 pm: Goes to Tampines for dinner: $5.50.
7 pm: Drives a passenger from Tampines to Pasir Ris. Fare: $6.90.
Drives to the airport and join the long queue.
8.45 pm: Drives a passenger from airport to Eunos. Fare: $12.30.
9.45 pm: Drives service station, puts in diesel worth $12.40 before going home.
Costs
Rental: $80
Diesel: $12.40
Food: $10
Total: $102.40
Takings: $103
Total Net Earnings: $0.60 (goes to my piggy bank for retirement)
After long 15 hours on the road.
Yesterday I read...ComfortDelgro(Big Taxi Operator)'s Q1 profit jumps 85% to $54.8m due to higher diesel sales, and increased taxi revenues.
Where is the logic here!
